Education: Feed Science and Management, minor in Leadership Studies
Graduation Year: 2014
Shauna Muehlbach was hired by Charm Sciences and has served as the Central Midwest Territory Account Manager since graduation in 2014. Charm Sciences manufactures quick lateral flow tests for all major mycotoxins and antibiotics in milk. Some of her main duties include working with feeds mills, grain elevators, flour mills, feed yards and farmers to provide easy solutions to manage their mycotoxin risk. She is also heavily involved in the dairy industry to test their incoming milk for antibiotics. The main areas she is responsible for are Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
The region that Muehlbach is in charge of sprawls over many states, which allows her to travel every week. Her travel consists of making sales calls, giving corporate presentations or training new and current customers on their products. Muehlbach says “I also attend trade shows and conferences in my territory, which is a great way to see all of my customers in one location.”
K-State Experience
During Muehlbach's time as a student, she was highly involved on campus. She was a part of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Sigma Alpha Lambda Leadership Honors Society, Alpha Mu Department of Grain Science and Industry Honors Society and the Feed Science Club. She also took advantage of the opportunity to go to the International Production and Processing Expo. Muehlbach also served as a site leader for a leadership studies spring break trip to Taos, New Mexico.
The animal science course titled Principles of Feeding is what sparked Muehlbach's interest in feed science so much so that she switched majors to feed science. She says, “I loved learning all the different feed ingredient and when and why to use the ingredients.”
The feed science courses and the advisors prepared Muehlbach for two internships. She was an intern at the Kansas Department of Agriculture in the Animal Health Division. She participated in foreign animal disease and strategic animal health planning, renewed licensed brands and assessed inspection to unlicensed and licensed pet facilities. During her time as a student, she took the opportunity to intern at Ceva Animal Health as the chick embryo origin (CEO) production intern. In this position she utilized time standards for production planning and balancing workforce with available work, determined standard cost and budgetary control, created a training module for the staff and assisted supervisors with the hiring process.
Seize the Opportunity
Muehlbach enjoyed being involved on campus. She says, “take advantage of the clubs in your major. Get involved with anything and everything, even if it's outside of your comfort zone! Being able to communicate outside of your comfort zone is one of the best traits I have learned from my sorority and clubs.” She adds, “lastly, from one sports fan to another, try to go to as many Kansas State sports games with your friends. You will miss living in Manhattan and going to games with your friends. Go Cats!”
