The Department of Grain Science & Industry at Kansas State University has an internationally recognized graduate program, leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Grain Science. A wide variety of opportunities for graduate study are offered in areas of both applied and basic research.

Grain Science and Industry Gradaute Program Application Information
Application deadlines:
- January 1 for fall semester (August) enrollment
- August 1 for spring semester (January) enrollment
- December 1 for summer semester (June) enrollment
Admission to the program is highly competitive, PLEASE APPLY EARLY!
Course requirements
The Departmental Graduate Program Committee has established the following course requirements for admission to the Masters and Doctorate programs.
- Mathematics, including College Algebra, Calculus and Statistics
- Chemistry, including Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry
- Physics
- Biological Sciences
(The Graduate Program Committee reserves the right to waive these requirements or the graduate student's advisor may request students to take pre-requisite courses upon entry to fulfill the requirements.)

INTERNATIONAL applicants are required to provide the following additional documents:
* Original transcript(s)
Please provide a copy of original transcripts written in your native language and one translated into English for all grades, from all colleges and universities you have attended.
* English language proficiency test score:
An official report of TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE score is required, or evidence of a degree from a U.S. university. The English language proficiency requirements are a minimum TOEFL score of 79, a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, or a minimum PTE score of 58. Further testing scores information can be located here.
* Affidavit of Financial Support: Complete and sign all appropriate sections of this form and return with needed documentation to show support. An Affidavit of Financial Support cannot be more than nine months old. KSU and Grain Science require this financial statement. It acts as your proof to the United States Immigration Service that you have adequate financial resources to live in the United States during your years of study.
Application Fees
All applicants for graduate admission or readmission must submit an application and pay the appropriate fee.
The application fee is $65 for domestic students and $75 for international students. Applicants will pay their application fee online by credit card, debit card or online check through CollegeNet prior to submitting their application materials (checks must be drawn on U.S. banks).
Grain Science Graduate Assistantships
We give assistantship preference to students with:
- Exemplary academic records
- High TOEFL/IELTS/PTE scores
Grain Science Graduate Excellence Fellowship
The Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University is offering up to 6 Graduate Fellowships starting in Fall 2025. Each fellowship, valued at approximately $40,000 per year ($30,000 annual stipend plus tuition and fees), is guaranteed for at least 3 years, contingent on satisfactory academic and research performance. The fellowship aims to support exceptional and high-potential PhD students newly admitted to the Grain Science & Industry graduate program, beginning no earlier than Fall 2025. A primary goal of the fellowships is to attract top-tier domestic talent into our PhD program. While preference is given to domestic applicants, all exceptional candidates will be considered.
